"John Ewing, one of the oldest and most widely known residents of Canfield township, died of heart trouble last Friday evening at his home a short distance west of Toot's Corners. Deceased was a son of Alexander Ewing, a pioneer of this section, and was born July 27, 1827, on the farm where he died. He was the last of the children of Alexander Ewing, Surviving him are his wife and six children – Almedus, Elmer, Rebecca and Charles at home and Orrin and John of Tacoma Wash. Funeral services, held Monday from the family residence, were conducted by Prof. L. U. Hulin of North Lima. Interment was made in the Canfield cemetery."
